Following from the oil spill incident on 3 April 2025, Chek Jawa Wetlands in Pulau Ubin has reopened for public access on 5 April 2025.
To prevent any further impact, we will let the oil residue at the affected areas at Chek Jawa Wetlands break down naturally, and will continue to monitor the biodiversity-sensitive areas closely.
The booms that were pre-emptively placed at Chek Jawa Wetlands will also be progressively removed.
Agencies shared earlier today that as of 4 pm on 4 April 2025, there are no visible oil patches off Pulau Ubin and no new oil sightings at sea. The bulk of the clean-up is expected to be completed within the next few days.
Clean-up operations at parts of the beachfront at Changi Beach Park and the beachfront at Area 1 of Pasir Ris Park that are lightly stained are underway, and these areas remain cordoned off. Public access to Chek Jawa Wetlands in Pulau Ubin remains closed for further monitoring.
Protective booms have been deployed around various biodiversity-sensitive areas such as Chek Jawa Wetlands, Sungei Tampines and Sungei Api Api.
Together with research partners, we have carried out visual assessments and thus far, there has been no observable impact to wildlife at Chek Jawa Wetlands, Changi Beach Park and Pasir Ris Park. Agencies will continue to monitor the situation closely.
