Archives Unlocked: The Causeway: The Line That Ties
The Causeway is an important transportation link between Singapore and Malaysia that has deep historical significance. In commemoration of its 100th year, join archivists Hamizah and Jing Jing as they delve into the archives and explore the functions of the Causeway over the years. They will highlight social activities relating to the Causeway and illuminate its role for people in both countries..
About the Speaker
Hamizah Ibrahim is an Archivist from the Records Management Department at the National Archives of Singapore. Fascinated by the collections held at the archives; she appreciates their historical significance and aims to share their importance with a wider audience.
Yong Jing Jing is an Assistant Archivist at the Records Management Department at the National Archives of Singapore. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and often reflects on the connection between the past and present and hopes to contribute meaningfully to the management of records.

Archives Invites: Archival Materials in the National Archives of Malaysia
This presentation will delve into the rich archival collection related to the Johore-Singapore Causeway held at the National Archives of Malaysia. These materials have been featured and analysed in The Causeway, a 2011 joint publication between the National Archives of Malaysia and the National Archives of Singapore. Join Senior Archivist Nurul Azizi bin Sapihee @ Shafie as he explores these resources in detail, shedding light on the Causeway as an instrumental link between Malaysia and Singapore and the deep historical connection between the two nations.
About the Speaker
Nurul Azizi bin Sapihee @ Shafie is a Senior Archivist who is also currently the Head of the National Special Research Section at the National Archives of Malaysia (NAM). He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He has been with NAM since 2003 and has made significant contributions both to the organisation and the field of archiving. Over the years, Azizi has been involved in various studies and research on national demarcation, both within and outside of Malaysia. He has also played a crucial role in managing Malaysian History Polemic events (Majlis Polemik Sejarah Malaysia) and was the secretariat for the 17th SARBICA General Assembly and Seminar Workshop on Issues and Challenges in Preserving Audiovisual Archives in the Tropical Region. Azizi has also contributed to several of NAM’s publications, including 53 Tahun Merdeka, Malaysia 47 Tahun – Buku Cenderamata Kemerdekaan ke-53 (2010) and Arkib Negara Malaysia: 50 Tahun Menjelajahi Zaman (2008).
