Your success starts with the most suitable subject combination
Your final option of subject combination should take into account:
Your level of interest in the subjects. Do pay close attention to the subject briefings, as well as the various resources available to guide you in your decision. Use the Matriculation Week well to experience the various subjects first hand, and to ascertain your own interests in the subject(s).
A good starting point in making your decision would be to consider your talents, interests, and aspirations.
Refer also to the University Prerequisites of possible degree choices which may lead to Career options you are interested in.

Choosing a Suitable Subject Combination
Begin with the End in Mind - (1) Identify your Talents, Interests & Aspirations
Use the following guidelines to help you make a well-informed decision on your subject combination:
What are your personal interests?
What are your talents? Is there any particular area that I enjoy and/or have done well in? This can be subject specific, or in terms of skills and dispositions (e.g. detail-oriented, interacting with people) etc.
Is there any career that you aspire towards?
How do you wish to contribute back to society in terms of your career?
One way to help you get an idea of what careers might be suitable for you would be to do a career profiling assessment. There are many of such tools that you can find with a simple web search. You can also go to the 'MySkillsFuture Portal' to take the career profiling assessment.
Note: If you cannot access the site:
Call the helpdesk (66849020) to ask them to help you to reset your password.
Click on 'forgot your password?' and the system will generate a password to send to the email account you have linked it to.
Do not forget the password. This is a site with lots of useful information that you can use especially when you complete your 'A' levels.
Begin with the End in Mind - (2) Checking Up University Course Requirements
Having identified potential careers of interest, consider the following:
Which University Course do I need to do to get there?
Which University (local or overseas) offers it?
Does my preferred University Course have prerequisite 'A' level subjects?
Do not assume that you know what is the prerequisite 'A' level subject for your preferred course. (Eg. A”-level Biology is not a prerequisite for studying Medicine in the National University of Singapore. The requirement is actually H2 Chemistry + Either H2 Physics or Biology.)
Information on Local University Courses (Updated 2024)
The handbook below presents key 'Information on Local University Courses'. This document allows you to see what are the 'A' level subject requirements for your desired University Course. Further information and details can be obtained via the websites of the respective universities.
Before you Confirm your Choice of Subjects
Consider the following questions:
What are the subjects that I qualify for?
Which subjects interest me? Do not simply follow the crowd. Read the MOE syllabus documents to see what you are in for.
What subjects do I tend to have the flair for? Students who offer subjects they are good at and are interested in tend to perform better than those who take what they think is the “safe route”. Having said that, it is good to learn from your seniors how the subject is different at 'A' levels, do not assume it is exactly the same.
