JC1: Self-Discovery & Exposure

The focus of the College's ECG Programme at JC1 is for students to discover and understand their individual talents, interests and aspirations. Key programmes offered in the calendar year include:

  1. Clifton Strengthsfinder Training Workshop: All JC1 students undergo a 2-day training programme to understand their personalised talent themes. Students will be guided to use these talent themes in the consideration of their higher education and career options.

  2. Careers Fest: Students will be given opportunities to interact with representatives from a variety of careers and industries via panel sessions.

  3. Work Attachment and Shadowing Programme (WASP): Offered as part of the College's Stretch programmes, these 2-week long attachments allow students opportunities for experiential learning in the workforce. Other ECG-related stretch opportunities include the Junior College Law Programme (JCLP), where students will have chances to learn more about careers and industries of their interest.

  4. Workshops and Other Opportunities: JC1 students will are also encouraged to attend skills training sessions (e.g. SAT training workshops for students considering further education in the US), as well as other admissions, scholarships, and career talks organised year round.

  5. ECG Counselling: Students are encouraged to sign up for group or individual ECG counselling sessions with our ECG Counsellor, Ms. Joys Lin, to explore career and higher education pathways of interest.

JC2: Deepening of Experience; ECG Skills Training

In their graduating year, students are guided to deepen their understanding of their talents, interests and aspirations. JC2 students are also provided with greater breadth of exposure to the various IHLs and industries. To prepare students for their applications to universities and scholarship opportunities, training in ECG-skills are a cornerstone of the programme at JC2. Key programmes offered in the calendar year include:

  1. Careers Fest: Students will be given opportunities to interact with representatives from a variety of careers and industries via panel sessions.

  2. ECG Skills Training: With growing competition for places at the IHLs and workforce, all JC2 students receive training in key ECG skills, where they are guided to distinguish themselves through their personal statements and interviews.

  3. Tea Sessions, Nominations, and other Opportunities: Throughout the year, the ECG team also works with external partners, providing opportunities for students to attend tea sessions and relevant talks for exposure. Deserving students are also nominated for scholarships, on the basis of academic performance, Co-Curricular credit, as well as alignment to their personal interests.

  4. ECG Counselling: Students are encouraged to continue their group or individual ECG counselling sessions with our ECG Counsellor, Ms. Joys Lin. In JC2, you are encouraged to deepen your consideration of specific career and higher education pathways in order to better prepare for the next step of higher education.

Holistic Development for ECG

All programmes / opportunities offered by the college / in collaboration with external partners come under the broad categories of:

  • Leadership Development

  • Skills and Training

  • Intellectual Development

  • Awards & Scholarships

  • Service to the Community

These baskets serve as guidelines for holistic development. Students are encouraged to take the ownership for their own development, and to pursue opportunities available from each of the suggested categories. Information on relevant programmes will be publicised and updated via SLS, the plasma TVs around the college, as well as on this portal.
