National Digital Literacy Programme (NDLP)

What is the National Digital Literacy Programme (NDLP)?

MOE launched the National Digital Literacy Programme (NDLP) for our schools and Institutes of Higher Learning to help students strengthen their digital literacy. One of the components of the NDLP is the introduction of the Personalised Digital Learning Programme (PDLP) for all secondary school students, whereby every secondary school student will own a school-prescribed Personal Learning Device (PLD).

What are the objectives of NDLP in BMSS?

With 1 to 1 tech-enabled learning, to create a student-centric, engaging and stimulating teaching and learning environment which encourages Merahans to:

  • take ownership of their learning,

  • participate in collaborative learning and

  • extend their learning beyond the classroom.

What is the Device Management Application (DMA) that Personal Learning Devices (PLD) will be installed with?

The DMA has a variety of functions that will support the use of the PLD in the classroom, as well as safeguard students’ cyber-wellness. The DMA can:

  • Remotely deploy teaching and learning applications as well as security patches

  • Enable teachers to monitor and control the students’ screens

  • Restrict apps and websites accessible

  • Limit screen time

The Device Management Application (DMA) which will be installed in your child/ward’s PLD collects data on usage by the student, such as the amount of time spent on each application. The DMA data will only be used for MOE’s cyber-wellness measures and technical troubleshooting. MOE will not disclose the data to any person otherwise than permitted under the law.

What are the administrative and payment processes involved in getting a PLD?

  1. The school uses the Acer Travelmate Spin B3 (Windows OS laptop with touchscreen) which costs about S$650.

  2. After the parents engagement session on 13 January 2023, the Purchase Agreement and Edusave forms will be sent to parents via Parents Gateway.

  3. After the necessary administrative processes are completed, the school will place an order for the PLDs.

  4. School will make arrangement for students to collect their PLDs once they are delivered to school. Arrangements will be made for the students to unbox and check the PLD together with the installation of the necessary software.

Note:

  • Edusave can be used to pay partly or fully for the PLD. A Singapore citizen student can use up to the available Edusave balance in his/her Edusave account to pay for the PLD after setting aside provision for payment of 2nd tier miscellaneous fees.

  • Based on experience, students have more than enough money in their Edusave to pay fully. Parents/guardians can also choose to pay cash for the PLD.

  • Subsidies are available for students who require financial assistance to purchase a PLD.
