53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings, 9 to 12 September 2020

08 September 2020

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will attend the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), Post Ministerial Conferences (PMCs), 21st ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM), 10th East Asia Summit (EAS) FMM, and 27th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) via videoconference from 9 to 12 September 2020.

At the 53rd AMM, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers (FMs) will take stock of progress in regional cooperation, follow up on the outcomes of the 36th ASEAN Summit in June 2020, and exchange views on regional and international issues. Given the severe and multifaceted impact of COVID-19 on the region, the ASEAN FMs will also discuss ways to address the pressing public health and socio-economic challenges posed by COVID-19, as well as how to prepare the region for post-pandemic recovery.

At the PMCs, ASEAN FMs will meet their counterparts from ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, namely Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States, to discuss cooperation in various domains. Minister Balakrishnan will also engage his counterparts at the APT FMM, EAS FMM and ARF on key regional and international developments and the evolving regional architecture.

Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
