Why should
we track our sleep?

It’s easy to overlook sleep when we have to prioritise other things in our lives. This is where sleep tracking comes in. It helps us cultivate good sleep habits so we can get sufficient sleep daily.

Just like a sleep diary, sleep tracking measures the duration of our sleep using wearable devices like fitness trackers.

By tracking our sleep, we can also:

Monitor sleep, sleep patterns, deep sleep duration and sleep cycle duration
Monitor our sleep patterns

When we have detailed information like how long we sleep, or how often we wake up during our sleep, it lets us understand the quality of our sleep, and what kind of adjustments we need to make to improve it.

Being tucked in bed at 10pm does not mean we’ll doze off immediately. This is why sleep tracking helps. It tells us when exactly we fell asleep. This helps us to rethink our bedtime habits and consider the adjustments required for sufficient sleep.

Sleep duration and patterns can differ across time, especially when life gets busy. By tracking our sleep regularly, we’re reminded to get sufficient rest to recharge our mind and body.

Here’s a guide on how often you should track your sleep:
- at least 3 days in a week
- at least 5 days in a month
