32 more cases discharged; 233 new cases of COVID-19 infection confirmed

                32 more cases[i] of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 560 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

2.             As of 12 April 2020, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed and verified an additional 233 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore. The breakdown is as follows:

a)   Imported cases: 0
b)   Linked to known clusters: 51
c)   Linked to other cases: 15
d)   Pending contact tracing: 167, of which 16 are Singapore Citizens/ Permanent Residents and 10 are Work Pass or Long Term Pass holders residing in our community; and 141 are Work Permit holders, mostly residing in dormitories, work sites and other living quarters.


3.             We have provided a breakdown of the trend of daily cases based on the different transmission types (see Annex A). As seen from the chart, the number of imported cases rose around mid-March due to the large number of returnees but has since come down to zero. The number of cases in the community increased following the wave of new imported cases, but there has been some moderation in recent days, in light of the safe-distancing measures that have been put in place earlier. The number of work permit and dormitory-related cases has also increased sharply, and this is likely to continue going up, especially as we undertake more aggressive testing at the dormitories.

4.             Contact tracing and investigation are underway for currently unlinked cases to establish any links to known clusters or previous cases. In the past week (5 April to 11 April), MOH has uncovered links for 229 previously unlinked cases.

Links between previous cases found

5.             Further epidemiological investigations and contact tracing have uncovered links between previously announced and new cases. A summary of all the confirmed cases are in Annex B

a)    Three of the newly confirmed cases are linked to 12 previous cases[1], forming a new cluster at Acacia Lodge (530-540 Bukit Batok Street 23).

b)    Two of the newly confirmed cases are linked to six previous cases[2], forming a new cluster at Tuas View Dormitory (70 Tuas South Avenue 1).

c)    20 of the earlier confirmed cases[3] have now been linked to a new cluster at 36 Woodlands Industrial Park E1.

d)    Five of the earlier confirmed cases[4] have now been linked to a new cluster at 85 Kallang Dormitory (85 Kallang Avenue).

e)    Eight of the earlier confirmed cases[5] have now been linked to a new cluster at Black Tap (10 Bayfront Avenue).

f)    Eight of the earlier confirmed cases[6] have now been linked to a new cluster at a Kenyon/ UBS construction site (9 Penang Road).

g)    One of the newly confirmed cases is linked to three previous cases[7], forming a new cluster at McDonald’s (outlets at Forum, Lido and Parklane).

h)    30 additional cases are linked to the cluster at S11 Dormitory @ Punggol (2 Seletar North Link), which has a total of 365 confirmed cases[8] now.

i)    Seven additional cases are linked to the cluster at Westlite Toh Guan dormitory (18 Toh Guan Road East), which has a total of 76 confirmed cases[9] now.

j)    Five additional cases are linked to the cluster at Toh Guan Dormitory (19A Toh Guan Road East), which has a total of 45 confirmed cases[10] now.

k)    17 additional cases are linked to the cluster at Sungei Tengah Lodge (500 Old Choa Chu Kang Road), which has a total of 80 confirmed cases[11] now.

l)    One additional case is linked to the cluster at Tampines Dormitory (2 Tampines Place), which has a total of 51 cases[12] now.

m)   Four additional cases are linked to the cluster at Kranji Lodge (12 Kranji Road), which has a total of 13 confirmed cases[13] now.

n)    10 additional cases are linked to the cluster at Cochrane Lodge I (51 Admiralty Road West), which has a total of 32 cases[14] now.

o)    Six additional cases are linked to the cluster at Cochrane Lodge II (49 Admiralty Road West), which has a total of 17 cases[15] now.

p)    Eight additional cases are linked to the cluster at Shaw Lodge (12 Shaw Road), which has a total of 16 confirmed cases[16] now.

q)    Four additional cases are linked to the cluster at Cassia @ Penjuru (15 Penjuru Walk), which has a total of nine confirmed cases[17] now.

r)    Two additional cases are linked to the cluster at 31 Sungei Kadut Avenue and 21B Senoko Loop, which has a total of 11 cases[18] now.

s)    Four additional cases are linked to the cluster at a construction site at Project Glory (50 Market Street), which has a total of 46 confirmed cases[19] now.

t)    Four additional cases are linked to the cluster at the renovation sites at the National University Hospital (5 Lower Kent Ridge Road), which has a total of 20 confirmed cases[20] now.

u)    Four additional cases are linked to the cluster at Mustafa Centre (145 Syed Alwi Road), which has a total of 82 confirmed cases[21] now.

v)    One additional case is linked to the cluster at The Orange Ballroom (845 Geylang Road), which has a total of five confirmed cases[22] now.

Update on condition of confirmed cases

7.             To date, a total of 560 cases have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

8.             Of the 976 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, most are stable or improving. 31 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit. 988 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. Eight have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

Update on contact tracing for confirmed cases

9.             Contact tracing for the confirmed cases is ongoing. Once identified, MOH will closely monitor all close contacts. As a precautionary measure, they will be quarantined for 14 days from their last exposure to the patient. In addition, all other identified contacts who have a low risk of being infected will be under active surveillance, and will be contacted daily to monitor their health status.

10.            As of 12 April 2020, 12pm, MOH has identified 28,140 close contacts who have been quarantined. Of these, 12,088 are currently quarantined, and 16,052 have completed their quarantine.
